The Knowledge of inheritance and the division of shares is very important, precise and interesting. Allah has clearly mentioned the rulings pertaining to inheritance in the Quran. This is because during the period of Jahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic ignorance), people were oppressed in matters of division of inheritance. Women and children were deprived from inheritance; and only those who participated in wars and fetched war-booty were deemed heirs. Finally, the Shariah of Islam brought them relief and fixed a share for each heir, so much so that even an unborn child in the mother’s womb is deemed an heir.
